Tears for the Moon God Available for Preorder

Just what the title says, Luckborn Volume 1 is up for preorder and available on Amazon. The book is enrolled in Kindle Unlimited, so you can access it once it is released in your kindle library.

The Blurb

For the sins he committed in a life that never was, Sao Njack was recalled into a prison outside time; but when a child of the God of Music sings, he is able to escape into time’s stream long enough to tell his former lover, Dupec Safar, of the fate awaiting him. If Dupec is to weather a coming cataclysm, he must again assume the mantle of a conqueror. The once emperor is ensnared in a game he does not understand, the stakes of which could spell doom for his people.

In pursuit of their aims, the gods will use the people who were closest to these defunct emperors, or see them removed from their Greatest Game before they can be used against them. In the mortal ability to evolve, they are met with a rare uncertainty, a fear for what will become of them if their iron grip on power is loosened. They are met with the possibility that these pawns in their endless games may become equal to them, and they will do anything to stop it from happening.

Representation of Marginalized Communities

Oh yes, it's in here alright.

As a queer, mixed race person, I have often found myself looking through a window that doesn't reflect my lived experience. The vast majority of romances in the books I enjoy reading are heteronormative, and before anything else, my mission is to change that. So, here you have a doorstopper (a bitch is long) wherein nearly the entire main cast is queer. There are queer women and men in these pages, one embroiled into a fractured Cinderella story, two moonlighting (hehe) as defunct emperors, and even a polyamorous throuple from an uncontacted tribe who are, for better or worse, embroiled in a tragic game of cat and mouse.

On that note, as a mixed person (my father is black and indigenous, my mother, white) it's important to me to have representation that reflects not only my own identity, but the identities of the broadest possible population, which means you will find characters in this novel and broader series who are congruous with black and brown people from all over our world, as I've drawn influence from a sweeping array of cultures without seeking to make the cultures represented here one for one representations of what we, as people, are familiar with. (It wouldn't be much of a fantasy epic if I did.)

In this world, you will find strong traditions of animism and religious fervor with many flavors across cultures, nomads, plutocrats, uncontacted peoples and more.

What This Book Does Differently

A couple of things to get out of the way first. This book centers on queer characters, but it is not a romance. Though there are romantic subplots built into the narrative, they are not the point and you will be sorely disappointed if you go into this work expecting Romantasy.

Believe me, I enjoy a good romance as much as any other gay, but this is not that story.

It also features time travel as a critical component of the plot. A point of note my boyfriend has equated to the goings on in Doctor Who, though having never watched the show, I naturally have no idea what he's talking about (lol).

Regardless, if you enjoy time travel narratives, gods and monsters, sword and sorcery, revenge quests and gang lord activity, you might enjoy this book. You can preorder Tears for the Moon God here.
